Don Kendall came to work for ODOT in 1979 as a seasonal
employee. In 1985 he joined the Department full time. Don was extremely proud
of the work the Ukiah crew did. He was a dedicated employee and liked being
part of the ODOT family. Recently, he was involved with the Maintenance Trainee
Program, helping to bring the next generation into the ODOT family.
Many at ODOT worked alongside
Don and marveled at his energy as co-workers tried to keep up raking or
shoveling. He was proud to be the guy people tried to keep up with.
Without a doubt, Don will be
missed terribly by his family, friends, and all those at ODOT who were touched
by his hard work and dedication over nearly 30 years of service.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Don's passing He was a good friend, always dependable and a pleasure to work with. I'll not forget him, I am sorry. Eldon
ReplyDeleteMy sincere sympathy to Don's family and crew members. I have never met him, but his smile in the photo on the memorial page tells me he enjoyed what he did. Thank you to all the Don's out there who work to make the transportation system safe for all of us.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Don but I've known a lot of guys like him during my career with ODOT. Don't ever doubt that he had a significant impact on others lives. I know the section of road he worked and a friendly face is a welcome sight when you are in need of help out there. A good blade hand and plow operator are hard to come by and if for nothing else he will be missed for his skill. I grieve with his family and friends for their loss. Bruce in Portland
ReplyDeleteCondolences from Estacada maintenance section, your loss is our loss
ReplyDeletefirst met Don during the planning stages for a trip to Sturgis in 2010 and liked him immediately. He knew what he was about yet unassuming, so easy to talk to. He is and will be missed. Mike

I miss you being at the Ukiah shop - I would know if you were there because I would always hear you before I saw you. Laughing or teasing most of the time; sulking loudly if not. You nearly always had something from your garden to share with us, as the crews sat and ate lunch along the creek. It has been awhile now. I've not forgot and I still don't care for the idea. I hope your family, the crew and close freinds find warmth in your smile.
